Guía de Cultivo para el Sur de Florida
Requisitos de Luz
Requisitos de Agua
Once established (12–18 months), Paper Bougainvillea is drought-tolerant and requires minimal supplemental irrigation in South Florida.
KEY IRRIGATION RULE: REDUCE WATER IN FALL (September-November) to TRIGGER BLOOMING. This plant blooms in response to water stress — overwatering is the most common reason for failure to flower. During growing season: water 1-2x per week. September-November: reduce to once every 10-14 days. After bloom: resume normal irrigation. Drought tolerant once established — one of the most drought-tolerant flowering vines available.
Suelo y Fertilización
Fertilizer: High-phosphorus low-nitrogen fertilizer (e.g., Bougainvillea-specific 10-50-10). Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers.
Schedule: February and June only. HIGH-PHOSPHORUS fertilizer (low nitrogen). High nitrogen produces green growth, reduces flowers.
